How much does a plate cost?

The total cost of a set of plates is $42.50. $20 of the order goes to the Friends of Pomham Rocks Lighthouse to support the continued maintenance of the historic landmark. $22.50 goes to the RI DMV.

How much is my registration renewal?

Once the Pomham Rocks Lighthouse plate has been issued, all subsequent renewals will cost $32.50. Renewals occur every two years. $10 goes directly back to Friends of Pomham Rocks Lighthouse to support the maintenance of the lighthouse.

Do I have to live in Rhode Island to get a Pomham Rocks Lighthouse plate?

You must already have a Rhode Island registered car to get a Pomham Rocks Lighthouse Plate.

Do I have to pick up my plates at the DMV?

After the initial order distribution event, every order placed will be mailed out with a new registration certificate.

How are the Pomham Rocks Lighthouse plates going to be distributed?

After the initial order is produced, the DMV and Friends of Pomham Rocks Lighthouse will hold a Plate Distribution Event. At this event, you will bring in your old plates and exchange them for the new Pomham Rocks Lighthouse plate.

Can I keep my current RI License plate number?

Yes. Your current plate number is transferred to your new Pomham Rocks Lighthouse plate.

How many digits can be on the Pomham Rocks Lighthouse plate?

This license plate design will allow us to take applications for up to 6-digit plates.

Can I get whatever number I want?

We can only issue plates that are currently active. Friends of Pomham Rocks Lighthouse cannot grant anyone different plate numbers. Only the DMV can do that

I collect old license plates; can I keep my old one?

Yes. You can have them as a souvenir or you can recycle them. If you choose to keep them and then place them on a vehicle, you could be stopped and ticketed. If you choose to recycle them, please fold them as many times as you can or deface them and then place them in your recycle bin.

I’d like to get a vanity plate. Can you help me with this?

No, our role is to simply replace your existing plate with a new background featuring the Pomham Rocks Lighthouse. If you would like to change your current registration, you must contact the DMV.
